Product Description
YUV Viewer shows uncompressed video exactly as it is stored — sample for sample. Open raw YUV and RGB files, YUV4MPEG2 (.y4m) clips and Media eXchange Layer (MXL) flows, then check them with broadcast-style scopes and a pixel inspector that tells you the real code values, not just what they look like on screen.
It is built for video, broadcast and imaging engineers, codec and pipeline developers, and anyone who needs to see what is really inside a raw frame.
OPEN ALMOST ANY RAW LAYOUT
• 45 pixel formats: planar, semi-planar and packed YUV at 8 to 16 bits (I420, YV12, NV12, NV21, I422, I444, UYVY, YUYV, P010, P210, Y210 and more), 10-bit v210 and v210a, greyscale and packed RGB / RGBA.
• Names such as clip_1920x1080_yuv420p10le.yuv or foreman_cif_nv12.yuv are recognised automatically, and every file reopens with the size, format and offsets you last used.
• File and per-frame header offsets for raw dumps with headers.
• YUV4MPEG2 files are configured from their own header.
MXL FLOWS AND GRAINS
• Open a single grain, a flow or a whole MXL domain; switch between the flows in a domain.
• Flow definition and every grain header in plain text: epoch index, timestamp, flags, slices committed.
• Partially written grains show exactly which lines are not yet committed; invalid and partial grains are marked on the timeline.
• Interlaced flows weave field pairs into frames.
• Ancillary-data flows are decoded as SMPTE ST 291 / RFC 8331 packets, including timecode.
• Follow live jumps to the newest grain as a flow is being written.
SCOPES
• Luma waveform in IRE, RGB parade and YCbCr parade in native code values with legal-range lines.
• Vectorscope with 75% and 100% colour-bar targets and the skin-tone line.
• Histogram of luma and RGB.
• Line waveform: every sample of a single picture line, ideal for test patterns.
• CIE 1931 xy chromaticity against BT.709, DCI-P3 and BT.2020 — out-of-gamut colours land outside the triangle.
• Single, split and quad layouts, with your choice of scope in every pane. Hover any scope for a readout; the pixel under the cursor is marked on all of them.
PIXEL INSPECTOR
• Click the picture to pin a pixel and see its colour as native, 8-bit and hex code values, normalised Y′CbCr, luma %, RGB (8-bit, hex, 10-bit and unclamped float) and HSL / HSV.
• Average a 3×3 or 5×5 area on noisy material, nudge the pin with the keyboard, and copy any value with a click.
• Keep it docked in the side bar or open it in its own window — even on another monitor.
VIEWING AND CHECKING
• BT.601, BT.709 and BT.2020 matrices, limited or full range.
• View colour, luma, Cb, Cr, alpha, a key composite over a checkerboard, or false-colour exposure bands.
• Gamut and range zebra for illegal levels and colours.
• Zoom far in with a pixel grid and the code values printed on every pixel.
• Smooth playback: frames are decoded ahead on background threads and dropped rather than slowed down, with the achieved frame rate shown.
• Export the displayed frame as PNG, BMP or JPEG, or the frame's raw bytes.
