Product Description
Tern Files replaces File Explorer for everyday work – and it's faster.
Instantly there. The window is ready in about 0.7 seconds, a folder with 100,000 files shows its first rows in under 0.1 seconds, and copying is as fast as Windows itself.
Find anything. Instant search goes through millions of files in milliseconds – by name, type, size, date, tags and, if you like, content: "invoices from Telekom over €50 from 2026" works in plain language too.
Look with the space bar. Pictures, PDFs, videos, Office files, Markdown and code – without opening a program. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files get a text preview even without Office installed.
Archives as folders. ZIP, 7z, RAR and TAR open like normal folders: look inside, preview, drag single files out or extract everything. Edit ZIP files in place – rename, delete, add, with undo. Files you change from a ZIP go back into it if you like.
Every command from the keyboard. Ctrl+Shift+P opens the command palette: type, find and run any command or setting – and give it your own shortcut right there.
Order that lasts. Folder sizes right in the list, a storage view with the biggest space hogs, duplicate search with safe suggestions, batch rename with a live preview, rules that file new downloads automatically and smart folders that fill themselves – for example with everything new this week.
Local AI – on your PC. If you want, Tern Files downloads an AI model that runs entirely on your computer. It suggests folders for your downloads, names scans and invoices by their content and answers searches in plain language. Your files never leave your PC.
For developers. Git status in the list, "Terminal here", "Open in editor", a launcher for apps, files and commands (Alt+Space) and a quick switch in the open and save dialogs of other programs.
Safe. Every action can be undone, even after a restart. Delete goes to the Recycle Bin by default, and interrupted copies resume exactly where they stopped. Your tabs survive crashes and restarts, and Ctrl+Shift+T brings closed tabs back.
No account. No telemetry. English and German, light and dark, Windows contrast themes.
Fair. 14 days with every feature for free. Afterwards the file manager stays free, and the Pro features unlock by buying the app once in the Microsoft Store – no subscription, no in-app purchases.
Reliable payment method
